News from Herefordshire and Gloucestershire

SAM_0792When W Bro Neville Andrews , a Past Master of our Lodge, took residence in Gloucestershire he decided to further his Masonic experience by joining what is popularly known as the friendly degree, otherwise named The Mark Degree.

Neville’s choice took him to Cheltenham and Keystone Lodge No 10 meeting in Cheltenham.

If I tell you I had the great pleasure, along with W Bro Mike Bruton, to attend that lodges 150th Anniversary Celebration Meeting during 2008, you will understand my joy when W Bro Neville asked both W Bro Bernard Hardy and myself to attend his Installation last Wednesday evening.

The temple was packed to near capacity with very strong provincial representation ,there being no fewer than fourteen acting provincial officers present.

For those who have yet to visit the masonic Temple at Cheltenham one can only say don’t delay a visit any longer.

To see the beauty of this purpose-built Temple, complete with the winding staircase, has to be one of the Masonic Experiences of a life time. How fortunate we are to have Cheltenham so near to experience the grandeur of former times, whilst just a  few miles away at Kidderminster, we have the beauty of an ultra modern Temple with its chequered polished granite floor. Each in its own way something special.

W Bro Neville joins a long list of distinguished masons who have been installed Worshipful Master of No 10.

When the lodge was originally warranted and consecrated prior to the formation of the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons, it was under Scottish Administration, whence all Masons were made Mark Men following on from the second degree and before exaltation into Royal Arch.

The lodges number then being No 13  to be changed to No 10 following the formation of the Grand Lodge Of Mark Master Masons of England and Wales and its Lodge and Districts Overseas in 1856.

We offer W Bro Neville sincere congratulations and wish him good health to enjoy his year.
